Right after I graduated college, I got to go visit Las Vegas with a buddy of mine named David. And, as soon as we arrived in Vegas, we were both in awe of the lights, the food, the shows and the luxurious hotels and casinos that lined the strip. For two small town kids from Missouri, we were blown away by the excess and beauty of the place.
Anyway, I’m not a gambler. I never have been. David on the other hand tried his darnedest to get me to play some blackjack which he said was a game with a higher percentage chance of winning than most of the others. Whether or not that was true, it didn’t matter to me.
I only had two questions for David. The first question was whether or not he thought the casino we were in was a nice place. Of course. It was amazing. The next question I had for him was, “How do you think it got that way David?” Hint: It wasn’t from guys like us coming in and cleaning them out.
I kept my money in my wallet. David left Vegas with a fraction of what he started with.
Have you ever noticed how big insurance companies are? How do you think they got that way?
Hint: It’s not from people like you or me getting sick or injured and them sparing no expense to help us out.
Heck, at least in Vegas, when you put your money in a slot machine or on the table and win, at least they pay everything they are supposed to pay. With a lot of insurance companies, when it comes time for them to pay, that’s when the problems and hassles often start or get worse. Denied coverage… partial coverage… You know the type…
Their job is to maximize their profits. That means they strive to pay the least amount of money they possibly can. And people like me and you have to play Mother May I with the insurance companies.
One of the cheapest options, offered by insurance companies is drugs and other pain medications.
In case you hadn’t noticed. Drug companies are pretty big too. Want to take a guess how THEY got that way.
As comedian Chris Rock says, “There ain’t no money in the cure.” It’s obvious why drug companies aren’t as interested in producing drugs that solve the problems causing your pain as they are in helping to mask the pain and make it somewhat bearable. As long as the pain can be reduced by their drugs to the point that you can live with it, they’ve got you as a repeat customer and their revenues will continue to grow
Unfortunately, drugs simply mask the pain. And, that means you and others like you have to suffer and deal with a host of other issues and unintended consequences downriver that could have been totally avoided if you were able to deal with a single cause and solve the contributing problem at its cause.
Drugs don’t stop degeneration. Health problems can continue to decline as your condition deteriorates. Additionally, some times the treatment is worse than the problem.
Stem cell therapies offered in Oklahoma are not covered by insurance as of right now. Sometimes your best options aren’t offered because the big insurance companies want to protect their profits. The pain management focus and specialty of our practice is around diagnosing and addressing orthopedic issues. By that I mean pain and discomfort of the neck, back, knees, ankles, hips, shoulders, elbows, wrists and hands.
